The former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo during a public presentation of a book written by Professor Mark Nwagwu on Thursday 18 August 2017 said that the members of the Nigeria national Assembly are all criminals due to the bogus salary being paid to them in monthly basis.
Speaking during the launching of the book which was titled 'I am Kagara, I Weaved The Sand Of Sahara'.
Olusegun has also draw the attention of the Nigeria Federal government to respect the agreement it signed with the members of Academy Staff Union of Nigeria, noting that since the agreement has been made there is no going back because agreement remains agreement.
Obasanjo said:
"Government allows itself to be lured into an agreement without proper consultation especially when one group in Nigeria go into strike, after the agreement, implementation becomes a difficult thing for them.
"Government allows itself to be lured into an agreement without proper consultation especially when one group in Nigeria go into strike, after the agreement, implementation becomes a difficult thing for them.
" Agreement remains an agreement no matter what the case may be, once you are bound by it, you are bound, you cannot request for another agreement when their is one already because once signed it remains.
"When University teachers go to strike, there is an agreement, when medical doctors go to strike, there is always an agreement but in a special way, when the University teachers see that the agreement made between the government and the doctors supersedes that of the University Staff, it will then result to the University Staffs embarking into another strike which is too back for the Nigeria Economy.
" The way we are spending our revenues paying for overheads is not encouraging at all, using the method we will not develop rather remain stagnant. Later on we will get ourselves to blame for the down fall we are causing for the economy.
"Worst is the National Assembly Members, they are criminals, though I know they will abuse me but I will never stop talking about them until I see changes in them.
" Yes they are criminals because they are one of the highest paid people in Nigeria, while the masses are dying in poverty.
"Unless they are sleeping that is when they will not abuse me for telling the truth, but if they are awake by this time tomorrow they will open their naughty mouth and begin to abuse me.
" Their actions need to be thoroughly condemned. "
However, Mrs. Obu Ezekwesiri, the former Minister of Education has called for a positive change on the national development for the benefit of every Nigeria citizen. She said that the book will help the government to evaluate how the country had lost her value.
