Yakubu Gowon reveals reasons why Nigeria cannot be restructured

Former Nigerian Head of State and a Military Genera, Yakubu Gowon has revealed basic reasons why he think Nigeria cannot be restructured.

According to Gowon, he noted that the present composition of Nigeria makes it difficult and even impossible for Nigeria to undergo restructuring.

Explaining further, Gowon said that the country is made up of over 500 ethnic group and each group having the same idea on restructuring, if one ethnic group is more restructured, the other groups will feel cheated.
Gowon advised Nigerians to focus on one Nigeria and not restructuring.

Speaking in Minna, the capital of Niger state, He said, “Nigeria is made up of over 500 ethnic groups, languages and dialects and so many various groups called nationalities and they want restructuring. This restructuring everybody is asking for, we will have about 500 different ideas of restructuring.

“There is call for restructuring to reduce the number of states to only a few either back to the old region or to the zones.

“Those are some of the ideas that I do not know whether it will be possible for any state today to wish to be merged with another state. Let us see whether our politicians will see guidelines to be able to achieve what they want.

“But I have my problem whether the states will be financially capable to they will be able to run there states properly.”

Meanwhile, NGNAIJA has reported that the former military genera has revealed the major course of Biafra war in 1967.

According to Gowon, he noted that the late Biafra warlord and leader, Odumegu Ojukwu, cause the war by lying in Abari when he was called to position his presentations.
