A man who has been identified as Adekunle Oluseyi John jumped into the Lagos lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge this morning.
According to the Lagos State Police command spokesman, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, the suicide was reported at about 10:15 am at the Maroko Division.

Police operatives alerted rescue units while rushing to the scene.
Also involved in the rescue attempt were Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Waterways Authority as well as the marine police.
Eyewitness reports coming in stated in general that the man who is about 40 years of age took off his clothes and left his phone, ATM card, along with few other belongings before making the suicidal plunge into the lagoon.

During the search, his mobile phone was retrieved from the scene.
As to his reason for wanting to take his life, it still remains unclear.
